Also in attendance was Kearny Town Manager Anna Flores (in the background next to Sharon’s husband Jerry).

Sharon is planning on making a return visit in the fall for anyone who is interested in visiting with her.

Our Summer Reading Program also started on the Tuesday May 30th with the
6-8 yearolds.

Program Schedule:
6-8 year olds—Mondays 11:00 am—12:30 pm
9-11 year olds—Wednesdays 10:00—11:00-11:30 am

Since the Theme this year is Building A Better World we decided to “build” things that fly, and learn about flying.

We played a game of Airplane “Concentration”.  We made large playing cards using airplane clipart on cardstock.  We made 2 “cards” of each picture, mixed them up and spread them on the floor for all to see.  We then divided them into 2 teams and each person go 1 chance to match a pair for their team.  The kids loved it.

Kearny3The kids made a simple glider using a straw and strips of paper taped together and to the straw.  They fly fantastic so we gave them a try for the camera.

In the background is John Putman, our main helper (John also started our Lego Club on Thursdays from 11:00am—1:00, in our Southwest Room). To the right is teen helper Jessica Rawson, and to the right of her is Robin Boatman.

Winners Named in National Library Week Bookmark Contest

The Kearny Public Library celebrated National Library Week  (April 10th-14th) by holding a Bookmark Contest! This year’s theme was “Libraries Transform.”  After all the entries were received, a panel of judges chose the best 5 bookmarks from each grade level.  The 5 finalists were then posted in the library and our patrons were asked to cast ballots for their favorite design in each grade.  We then added up the votes to determine the top three winners from each grade.  In some cases winners tied for 3rd place so both became winners.

At our annual Open House on Thursday, April 13th  we gave out the winner’s certificates and prize bags.  We also had videos to raffle off to two of our patrons, who were all asked to fill out a ticket for each day that they used our library during National Library Week.  Our video winners for this year were:
Elizabeth Hammer—Hacksaw Ridge
Josselyn Lechuga—Trolls

We would like to thank all of our faithful patrons who helped us celebrate National Library Week, and who voted for our winners.

Now without further ado, we present our bookmark contest winners:

Welcome to the “New” Kearny Public Library

Kearny Public Library received its new paint job and landscaping, thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers.

In memory of Abby McDougal, who painted the original mural in 2007, we kept the mural but brightened up the colors.

This is just one of the changes coming to our Library, and we invite you to come in and check them out.

Digitization StationNew Digitization Station

Check out our new Digitation Station, provided by a grant received by the Pinal County Library System. We now have every thing that you need to make digital copies of VHS & audio cassettes, photographs, slides, and documents, on the spot.

There is no cost to use the equipment, except $1 for blank DVDs or CDs and a nominal cost for new flash drives (which haven’t arrived yet) if you need them. And it is “do it yourself.” We will show you what to do, but the rest is up to you, as we will not have time to do it for you.
We hope to use this Station to complete our Local History Project as well.

TV donated by the Keary Police Department

Kearny Police Department Donates a TV

We would like to thank the Kearny Police Department and Sgt. Blue for donating this fine TV to the library, and to the Town Crew for putting it up for us.

We plan on using it for our Summer Reading Program as well as demonstrations, and for groups or organization that need it.

We also have a brand new Blu-Ray/DVD player purchased by the Pinal County Library System.

Weekly Crochet Class

Crochet Class is every Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. and we have projects for the beginner and expert with one on one instruction.
